Alphanumeric Job Numbers

It would be great to have the option of creating an alphanumerical (searchable and sortable) job number that is meaningful to the business, as opposed to the numerical sequence that is currently allocated by the system and is not modifiable.  E.g: many builders etc use street addresses as job numbers.

You can use the Job Summary to define the name of the Job.

To sort the jobs by Job Summary click in the Job Summary column title. Although you can't search for a specific job you can sort the Job Summary column and then click inside the column and type the first letter of the job to go to jobs beginning with that letter.

Thanks for the quick response!  The Job Summary is all good but I'm thinking more of when Recording Time against a job on the Timesheet.

The Job drop-down list is in the assigned job number order (which is the sequence in which jobs were created) and is not sortable or searchable.

This may or not be useful for the business.  When you have several hundred jobs a more flexible job number, and/or searching and/or sorting would be useful.  Cheers

Ah I see what you mean. Yes, I agree this would be a good idea.

In most cases the list of jobs is limited based on the Work selected (only jobs for the selected Work are shown) or the Employee or Jobs are closed as they are completed so there isn't a large number of jobs to show.

Not sure if this ties in with this request but I have created my own job numbers under new work, work title followed by a description of the job, however it will only search to the first digit, when you have several in there it would be great if the search went to the second digit as well. This would save alot of time in the time billing area when having to allocate the time to the various jobs.
